When I started writing in this space almost 5 years ago, I really had no idea what I was doing. I knew that I had words that were bubbling up inside me, and I knew that I needed to get them out. For years, we had prayed that God would lead us to a place where our faith was “without borders”. So, I took the plunge and started writing. I called this space “Borderless” as a reminder that each time I wrote, I was pushing my faith to a place without limits.
I had just lost our second baby before beginning to write. The emotions were so raw. Telling our story of infertility and loss felt natural. It felt like it was the biggest thing we were facing and I felt that what God was sharing with us was so important. The more I wrote, the more I realized that our stories were so much bigger than just infertility. This space has grown to so much more than a story about infertility. We have walked through sickness, anxiety, anger and so many other feelings together in this place.
It’s no secret that in the past year I have written less in this space. That’s not to say the words have stopped, because they for sure haven’t. It’s just the things that have been written have been tucked away for a later date. So, if I am not writing as much, what is this space for?
If you have been following along for any amount of time, you know I am the text book definition of a Type A person. I love rules and patterns. Life makes sense to me when there are grids to follow, plans in place, and patterns of living. I also have a deep love for crafting. I have tried to sew, scrapbook, knit, paint and so much more. Over the years, the crafts I have loved have ebbed and flowed. My crafts usually follow my interests. For example, I took up painting because I wanted new artwork, but didn’t love the cost of what I wanted. I took up knitting out of a desire to love others. I took up scrapbooking to capture memories. The list goes on and on.
Anytime I have ever picked up a craft, I have followed rules or patterns. While I joke that I hate to follow a pattern while knitting, I still stick to a set number of stiches, rows and rules. When I scrapbook, I have a set of lines I must work within. Even when I painted, there was careful planning that went into very stroke of the brush. No one is ever going to look at me and describe a whimsical crafter. While there may be times my work looks “whimsy” there was great thought that went into that design!
I have been a lover of bracelets for years. I love how a bracelet can change the look of an entire outfit. So, of course, I set out to make myself some bracelets. I started small, just a few beads I thought I could wear a lot. I got all the beads out, laid them in rows, organized the and started to make a plan. A few hours later, I had made several bracelets. It was so fun.
The next night, I sat down to make more bracelets and I realized that my stress levels seemed to completely go away as I beaded. The timing of this new found stress relief has been so sweet and so refreshing. January and February (especially February) is my busiest time of the year in my career life. This year the stress of the season was at all new levels.
However, the small choice to sit and make bracelets has been a game changer. It’s kept me sane. Throughout the last several weeks, I have realized that making jewelry is the only place I can truly creative freely without the rules and patterns that typically make sense in my brain. It’s the one place where the constant inner dialogue silences, and I can enjoy peace. Making bracelets is my favorite place to be.
So, today, I am excited to announce something new. “Lil Bit of Glimmer”, an etsy shop focusing on pretty things that make you feel a glimmer of joy and a little sparkle, will launch in early April. My hope is the thing that brings me so much peace, will bless you.
This space will now be called “Lil Bit Glimmer”. We have transitioned to this name for a number of reasons, but the biggest reason is that we have learned over the years that a little of joy can change an entire day. I will continue to write as words flow and I will also continue to share books that I am loving on my personal Instagram.
To get a sneak peek of what is coming and to learn exactly when our launch date will be, be sure to follow along on Instagram. If you aren’t a lover of bracelets, don’t worry… Lil Bit of Glimmer has a few tricks up it’s sleeve! Be sure to follow along as we launch new products that we think we will bring you joy.
We are excited about this new adventure. While this space has always been “mine”, I am excited to bring Dan into the adventure with me. He will be packing orders and helping behind the scenes to keep the magic going. We love doing life together, so it just makes sense to do this together.
